Mentoring

GAWL runs three flagship mentoring programs, each with its own vibe, rhythm, and level of commitment.

01  Mentoring Mixers

Perfect for you if you love a good cocktail hour and career advice you can’t get from Google.

Part mixer, part masterclass. Attorneys at every career stage gather for cocktail hour mingling plus real-talk panels on topics like career transitions and ADR. It’s the place for the questions you’d never ask a colleague down the hall: work/life balance, navigating different treatment as a woman in the profession, and knowing when it’s time to make a move. While the mixers are open to all GAWL members, thoughtful mentor/mentee pairings will also be made for accepted applicants and pairings are encouraged to check in regularly.

Runs

September – April

Format

Mixer events every other month, plus self-directed check-ins with your match in off-months

Time

3–4 hours per event — plus whatever extra time you and your match add

Who

Practicing attorneys at all career stages

You get

Candid advice, a friendly face at every mixer, and a sounding board for the questions you’re not sure who else to ask

02  Mentoring Circles

Perfect for you if you’re craving a ride-or-die squad of women lawyers who’ll see you through every plot twist.

GAWL’s longest-running, most-loved program. Small circles of attorneys spanning every experience level and background meet monthly — same day, same time — over breakfast, lunch, or dinner in neighborhoods across Atlanta. This isn’t a one-and-done coffee chat; it’s a genuine community where members relate to each other as both lawyers and women, opening up personally and professionally, and showing up for one another through every phase of life. Diversity of life and career experience is the whole point.

Runs

Calendar year, January – December

Format

Small circle, matched by schedule and geography, meeting monthly at the same day/time

Time

1–2 hours per meeting, once a month

Where

Breakfast, lunch, or dinner circles across a variety of Atlanta neighborhoods

Who

Attorneys at all experience levels and backgrounds

Good to know

The one-year ask is just the starting line. The best circles keep going for years

03  Law Student Mentorship Speed Dating

Perfect for you if you want to see the light at the end of the tunnel that is law school and love conversations that last less than 5 minutes.

One night in October with zero long-term paperwork. Mentees rotate through quick-fire conversations with practicing attorneys. No formal program to follow — just an open invitation to keep in touch, grab coffee, and attend GAWL events like the Holiday Party and Sneaker Ball.

Runs

One evening in October

Format

Speed-dating-style rotation of short conversations

Time

One evening — that’s it. (Follow-up meetups are encouraged, not required.)

Who

Law students paired with practicing attorneys

After the match

No formal obligations — just informal check-ins and an open invite to GAWL social events

GAWL .edu

GAWL .edu was a program that was discontinued in 2024.   For years, it connected new lawyers to the practice of law by providing a year long program of mentoring and experiences.    Thank you to all those women who participated.
